In 1920, Henry Kessler opened the York Cone Company in York, Pennsylvania. It wasn’t until 1940 that Peppermint Patties came into the picture.

Each pattie had to pass the snap test. If it didn’t break clean down the middle, it wasn’t packaged for sale.

When imperfect batches didn’t go to stores, people would come to our Pine Street plant and scoop ‘em up—they still tasted great!


joining the Hershey Family

We merged with Hershey in 1988, and today York is synonymous with dark chocolate and peppermint.
