  • 4 to 6 large tart apples such as Granny Smith
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 package (15-oz. box) refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
  • 1-1/3 cups (8-oz. pkg.) HEATH BITS 'O BRICKLE Toffee Bits, divided
  • 2 teaspoons white decorator sugar crystals or granulated sugar, divided
  • Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream(optional)

1. Heat oven to 400°F. Peel and slice apples into thin slices. Toss apples with granulated sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon.

2. Unroll crusts; place each on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle 1/3 cup toffee bits over each crust; press lightly into crust.

3. Starting 2 inches from the edge of the crust, arrange apple slices by overlapping slightly in a circular spiral toward the center of the crust. Sprinkle 1/3 cup of remaining toffee bits over each apple center. Fold 2-inch edge of crust over apples. Sprinkle each crust edge with 1 teaspoon sugar crystals.

4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until crust is golden. Cool slightly. Serve warm or cool with sweetened whipped cream or ice cream, if desired. 2 tarts (8 servings each).

Note: Recipe may be halved.

These were so easy to make and really good.

The sweeter the apples, the less sugar you need. I used only a sprinkling instead of the recommended amount and it was especially delicious!
