1. Heat oven to 350°F.
2. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl until well blended. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture. Measure batter by scant 1/4 cupfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Prepare VANILLA FROSTING. Frost cookies; garnish with candy. Makes about 20 cookies.
*To sour milk: Use 1-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar plus milk to equal 1/2 cup.
VANILLA FROSTING: Combine 3 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons softened butter or margarine, 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1/4 cup milk in small bowl; beat until smooth.
