  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups hot water
  • Whipped topping

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Combine 3/4 cup granulated sugar, flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, butter and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  • 2. Spread batter in ungreased 9-inch square baking pan. Stir together remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup cocoa; sprinkle mixture evenly over batter. Pour hot water over top; do not stir.
  • 3. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Remove from oven; let stand 15 minutes. Serve in dessert dishes, spooning sauce from bottom of pan over top. Garnish with whipped topping, if desired. Makes 9 (1/2 cup) servings.

This recipe comes together fast and easily with a few simple ingredients that I always have on hand, and it always turns out delicious. That earns five stars. Definitely add some ice cream or whipped cream on top. Makes enough for a family of five.
Went to a chocolate dessert bar. The best choice was the hot fudge pudding cake and this recipe is even better. Ice cream melting on top is - well - over the top! P.S. Never could stick to a 1/2 cup serving!!!! The recipe doubles quite well into a 9 x 13 pan, but don't over bake it.
I've made this recipe years ago and lost it I took care of a Doctors mother and when I made it he would sneak over to have some and I could NOT tell his wife. She had him on a diet :)
    Tastes good with strawberries!!
So simple to make and very delicious my very favorite
I made this for my family yesterday we had it with some vanilla ice cream wow... they loved it ♡♡
This recipe is absolutely delicious!!!!! My whole family loved it and will surely be making it again. It's very easy and something good to quickly whip up for the family. Thanks to Hershey's!!!!! Make sure you try it!
This cake is like the moulton cakes. I've used this recipe for someone that has allergies to eggs and dairy products. When asked to add milk, I'd use almond milk. When asked for butter, I'd use earth balance instead. It's always a hit, even if you're not vegen or have allergies; even the grandkids love it. It's the bomb, seriously!
My long time "go to" recipe for a something quick everyone loves! I've made it with the Dark Chocolate cocoa before as well, and it was wonderful as well! And I've also mixed the two when I was close to the bottom of both containers to finish them off. Awesome!
This is the first cake my mother taught me to bake in the 50's. Still love it today.
This recipe was good, but I was looking for a deeper chocolate flavor. But it was easy to make and great with vanilla ice cream.
There is nothing I'd rather bake...and eat...than this delicious, gooey, hot dessert. With a little dab of homemade whipped cream on top, it's the best thing I've ever made every time I make it. My three other family members and I nearly gobble up the entire dish- but it's best fresh!
The recipe is great!! Quick and Easy. I've been making this for years for a quick dessert and everyone thinks it is fantastic. I too prefer vanilla ice cream on mine with a side of raspberries. Thank you for this recipe!!
I've baked this many times for family and friends because it is hot, easy, and ready to eat when you pull it out of the oven. I've baked many, many dishes, but this dessert stands out as my favorite.
Easy recipe and great outcome. I'm asked for the recipe every time I make it.
This was delicious and easy GREAT recipe.
This was very easy, rich and full of chocolately goodness! I also prefer vanilla ice cream over the whipped topping.
This pudding cake with whipped topping is absolutely wonderful! Tried this recipe several years ago, then lost the recipe. I am thrilled to have dound it again. Thank you! This will satisfy the most "extreme" chocolate lover. Be sure and warm it for just a few seconds before adding the topping.
Excellent easy dessert! My children and in-laws loved it!! It took no time at all, and had homemade written all over it!!!!!
Delicious!! Very fudgy and gooey exactly what I was hoping for!
I've been making this for decades! It's great if you run out or are low on eggs, yet want a chocolate dessert. And the recipe is better than many others I've found.
This recipe is quick, easy, and delicious. I prefer vanilla ice cream in lieu of the whipped cream, or you can try both. It is a rich dessert and a little goes a long way.
