1. Heat oven to 375°F. Grease 9-inch square baking pan.
2. Stir together flour, sugar and baking powder; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in beaten egg until blended.
3. Reserve 1 cup mixture; press remaining mixture onto bottom of prepared pan. Stir jelly to soften; spread evenly over crust. Sprinkle 1 cup peanut butter chips over jelly. Stir remaining 2/3 cup chips into reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle over top.
4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Makes 16 bars.
I love this recipe. It disapears fast in my house. To cut back on the sugar, I use sugar free jelly.
I have always liked this recipe very easy to make. This recipe was the one I used at a county fair and it won when I was a kid in '95.
I gave it a three because it didn't really pop out tastewise. I bake a lot, so I'm looking for something that stands out. It was pretty easy to make. I do want to mention that I asked everyone who tried to rate it on a scale from 1-10, and I consistantly got 8's or 9's.
Made this recipe for my family for the first time and now they want me to make it for them again and they want me to try it with other jams just to give it a twist.
