Deep Dish Brownies Recipe


  • 3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 8-inch square baking pan.
  • 2. Combine butter, sugar and vanilla in bowl. Add eggs; beat well with spoon. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to egg mixture, beating until well blended. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan.
  • 3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Makes 16 brownies.
  • VARIATION: Stir 1 cup REESE'S Peanut Butter Chips, HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Chocolate Chips or HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips into batter before spreading batter in pan.

    Great recipe for beginners. Very easy for the young ones.
    Mine were a bit too dry after 40 minutes. Next time will take out of the oven at 35 minutes.
    I made this it was not chocalite enough so I would add a tablespoon more...Also stick with real butter or margarine...I used veg shortnang and the texture and taste was really sweet. Overall a good recipe...
    ugh! what did i do wrong?? i don't understand. :( i followed directions exactly. the only thing i did differently was take them out at 30 min. cause they were already drying out. i used a 8 in pan & man, were they thick! i wanted a thick brownie, but the center was just enough cooked, & the surrounding brownie was dry like a cake. i don't know. i like cake thickness, but kinda chewy at the same time. this picture looked like it was the answer to my prayers (haha) but who knows.

    Wonderously chewy & rich! Very quick & easy to make. I doubled the recipe and put into a jelly roll pan. Have plenty of brownines to take camping......if they make it out the door! These have just moved to my all time favorite!
    I add about 1 heaping tbls. instant coffee crystles to dry ingredients. I use the handle of a wooden spoon to grind it to a powder first. I get raves

    These are the perfect brownies for my husband and me. Since I prefer more cake-like brownies and he prefers them more fudge-like, finding a recipe that pleases us both is difficult to say the least. I have been known to make two batches, one for him and one for me. These are the perfect compromise. They are sligtly cakey and slightly fudgy without being too much of either. Yum!

    I have been baking these for over 30 years ... so easy, best tasting brownies ever! I double and bake for 30 minutes in a jelly roll pan. Add 1 cup chocolate chips, 1 cup chopped pecans. When almost cooled, slice with plastic knife for cleaner edges.
