Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups water
  • Whipped topping

Directions

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Combine 3/4 cup granulated sugar, flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, butter and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  • 2. Spread batter in ungreased 9-inch square baking pan. Stir together remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup cocoa; sprinkle mixture evenly over batter. Pour hot water over top; do not stir.
  • 3. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Remove from oven; let stand 15 minutes. Serve in dessert dishes, spooning sauce from bottom of pan over top. Garnish with whipped topping, if desired. Makes 9 (1/2 cup) servings.

    Good!
    Went to a chocolate dessert bar. The best choice was the hot fudge pudding cake and this recipe is even better. Ice cream melting on top is - well - over the top! P.S. Never could stick to a 1/2 cup serving!!!! The recipe doubles quite well into a 9 x 13 pan, but don't over bake it.
    Tastes good with strawberries!!

    This cake is like the moulton cakes. I've used this recipe for someone that has allergies to eggs and dairy products. When asked to add milk, I'd use almond milk. When asked for butter, I'd use earth balance instead. It's always a hit, even if you're not vegen or have allergies; even the grandkids love it. It's the bomb, seriously!
    My long time "go to" recipe for a something quick everyone loves! I've made it with the Dark Chocolate cocoa before as well, and it was wonderful as well! And I've also mixed the two when I was close to the bottom of both containers to finish them off. Awesome!

    This pudding cake with whipped topping is absolutely wonderful! Tried this recipe several years ago, then lost the recipe. I am thrilled to have dound it again. Thank you! This will satisfy the most "extreme" chocolate lover. Be sure and warm it for just a few seconds before adding the topping.

    This recipe is quick, easy, and delicious. I prefer vanilla ice cream in lieu of the whipped cream, or you can try both. It is a rich dessert and a little goes a long way.
