  • 1 tablespoon powdered instant coffee
  • 1/2 cup crushed oat bran flakes cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • MOCHA FROSTING (recipe follows)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup nuts chopped
  • 1 cup HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Chocolate Chips or HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 8-inch square baking pan.
  • 2. Place chocolate chips and butter in medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute; stir. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Stir in sugar until blended; add eggs and vanilla, beating until well blended.
  • 3. Stir together cereal and water in medium bowl; let stand several minutes. Gradually stir chocolate mixture into bran mixture. Stir together flour, instant coffee, salt and baking soda; stir into chocolate mixture. Stir in nuts. Spread batter in prepared pan.
  • 4. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or just until center is set. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Frost with MOCHA FROSTING; cut into squares. Makes 16 squares.
  • MOCHA FROSTING
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons softened butter or margarine
  • 2 teaspoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 1-1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon strong coffee
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Beat butter and cocoa in small bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar, coffee and vanilla beating until of spreading consistency. About 1 cup frosting.
