  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Chocolate Chips or HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • CHOCOLATE SAUCE (recipe follows)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup shortening

Directions

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  • 2. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on bottom of pie crust. Beat sugar and shortening in small bowl until blended; add milk and vanilla, beating until smooth. Stir together flour and baking powder; gradually beat into sugar mixture just until blended. Spread over chocolate chips in pie crust. Prepare CHOCOLATE SAUCE; pour gently over top of batter. DO NOT STIR.
  • 3. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in cake portion comes out clean. Cool completely in pie plate on wire rack; serve cut in wedges. Makes 8 servings.
  • CHOCOLATE SAUCE: Place 1/2 cup water in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1 to 1-1/2 minutes or until boiling. Stir in 2/3 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa or HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Cocoa. Microwave at HIGH 1 minute or until mixture is smooth when stirred; stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
