Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) plus 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries, well-drained
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • Walnut pieces (optional)

Directions:
  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  • 2. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy; beat in egg and vanilla. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; stir into butter mixture. Stir in cherries and chopped walnuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Press walnut piece onto each cookie, if desired.
  • 3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Makes about 48 cookies.
