  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa or HERSHEY'S SPECIAL DARK Cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  • 2. Beat butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy; blend in eggs and vanilla. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats and nuts. (Batter will be stiff.) Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 3. Bake 11 to 12 minutes or until set; cookies will be slightly moist in center. Do not overbake. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Makes about 48 cookies.

    Very good cookie! I subbed canola oil for the butter- allergy issues here- and they turned out great. They are like a brownie and cookie rolled into one delicious treat.

    Very good cookies! I used half Crisco and half butter, half baking soda and half baking powder, and added a bit more cocoa to make them more chocolately. No problem with flat cookies at all and they tasted amazing! Just be sure to take them out of the oven before they look done. This will definitely be a regular recipe of mine!

    These are just about THE best cookies I've ever made. I used butter flavored Crisco instead of butter, and I added about a half cup of white chocolate chips. Perfect!!

    I used the special dark cocoa and I added some semi-sweet chocolate chips. Very very good. This is a keeper recipe!

    The first time I made these cookies they spread out which left them flat. The second time I made them I substituted baking powder for the baking soda. They turned out beautifully. These cookies do have a good flavor, but they tend to be dry. I added chocolate chips, and that improved them. Definately do not overbake them!

    delicious! i love it, it's so easy. i accidentally added 1/2 tsp of almond extract(yuck), then i realized what i was doing and switched to vanilla. they still taste good. i also didn't add quite as many rolled oats, probably 2 1/2 cups. and you gotta throw in some chocolate chips:]
