Awesome not too sweet and easy brownie with or without frosting!

  6. Review 5/11/2013 8:49:34 PM by :
I used to believe brownies did not need any kind of frosting. However, this recipe changed my mind. I had never used corn syrup in any frosting recipe that was not cooked in some form, but this is yummy!!

  7. Review 5/4/2013 10:37:57 PM by :
I added half almond extract instead of 1teaspoon of vanilla. So tasty.

  8. Review 5/3/2013 11:25:32 PM by :
I went with self-rising flour instead of the all-purpose and baking powder. I didn't want frosting or nuts, so I left them out. This is the best Best Brownies I've ever had. And the easiest I've made, of cocoa brownies. Second day and still soft and moist. I didn't add a bit more cocoa then called for also. Yummmmmmy!!!!

  9. Review 4/27/2013 5:55:50 PM by :

  12. Review 3/17/2013 8:44:14 PM by :
These brownies satisfied our chocolate craving in no time! (including the time it took to make the frosting) We had warm chocolately goodness from start to finish in 45 minutes. Yum! Followed the recipe as stated.

  17. Review 2/16/2013 10:09:12 PM by :

  20. Review 1/24/2013 11:52:23 AM by :
I added a little over a tablespoon of vegetable oil to this recipe and the brownies came out perfect. They were the traditional brown consistency but taste much better because their from scratch!

  21. Review 1/17/2013 2:04:59 AM by :
BEST brownies I've ever had! You MUST make these, I suggest a double batch so you have more.

  22. Review 1/10/2013 12:30:16 AM by :
The easiest recipe ever !!! The texture is more like a cake rather than a brownie. But it tastes good.

  23. Review 1/6/2013 1:23:14 AM by :
Doesn't have the texture of a brownie. I expect my brownies to be more fudgy and richer tasting. Very easy though. Taste isn't bad; it tastes like a chocolate cake, but not what I expect from a brownie.

  24. Review 12/18/2012 9:57:04 AM by :
These are simple, but taste soooo great! I doubled the recipe because I like a thicker brownie versus thin brownies and used a 9 x 13 glass baking dish. And the icing is so smooth and delicious. Great tasting brownies without alot of work.

  25. Review 11/21/2012 12:24:21 PM by :
Been making these since 1974 or so...great results with minimal effort!

  26. Review 9/13/2012 3:28:36 PM by :

Very Delicious. All purpose flour mixture can be substitued for self rising flour and you can also add a few tablespoons of cool whip for added moisture!! My first time baking these and they are the best brownies I've ever eaten.

Just add a little xanthan gum and use gluten free flour then voila! Simple and great.

  33. Review 7/11/2010 10:43:16 AM by smd1227:
WOW!!! I will NEVER buy a boxed brownie mix ever again. These are so simple to whip up with a whisk. I only used my mixer for the frosting. They are very rich, chocolatey & fudgy; just the way a perfect brownie should be. And the frosting is so fudgy & decadent. The recipes makes the perfect amount for the batch of brownies, if you can avoid eating it all with a spoon right out of the bowl first. Thank you, Hershey for another outstanding recipe.

  35. Review 6/15/2010 4:34:16 PM by Kathrynbuss:
    Best brownies ever!

  36. Review 6/1/2010 2:30:40 PM by 2CatsandMe:
These are the best!!! I followed the recipe to a T, except, I did not use a spoon as suggested. I used my hand mixer on low speed to incorporate the butter with the sugar and also on low for the eggs and then gradually added the flour. The result was a smooth batter that resulted in higher brownies. Mixing by spoon as I have before the texture was heavy and grainy from not incorporating the butter and sugar correctly. Hope this will help someone. The recipe is indeed the best brownies I have ever made. Will never buy packaged mixes again.

  37. Review 5/29/2010 9:01:05 AM by calvarese2:
These were so very tasty! I doubled the recipe to make a 13x9 pan of them. It was a little more cake like, but at the same time I think I would describe it more as a thick brownie (which in my book isn't a bad thing). Also, I was running low on cocoa so I used one portion regular cocoa and one portion dark chocolate cocoa. Since so many people had mentioned adding things I also added 1/4 cup chocolate syrup. Also, I would say the frosting is a must! That is seriously the best frosting I have had ever! I will for sure be making this again!

  38. Review 5/7/2010 3:39:11 PM by sundip121:
the reason i give it 3 stars is because i followed the exact same recipe and the "brownies" looked and had a texture that of a cake and tasted very bland and not chocolatey at all so i decided to alter the recipe a my recpe i added 1/3 cup butter instead of 1/2,also 1 1/4 cup of sugar instead of just 1 cup,3/4 cup cocoa instead of 1/3 cup, 1/8 tsp baking powder instead of 1/2 tsp and 1/2 tsp salt instead of 1/4 tsp and they turned out yes i would say that with all these alterations, they finally had the texture of and tasted like chocolatey brownies....i didnt try the icing though.

I come back to this recipe again and again. When I have time to back from scratch, this is the recipe I always pull up. For the days when you are really having strong cravings for chocolate, don't leave off the brownie frosting! A keeper!

  40. Review 3/10/2010 3:40:53 PM by Ktchnwiz:
Very easy to make; it can be doubled; great with or without frosting; family favorite. Be careful not to overbake; the brownies are done before they look done. Freezes well.

I found this recipe to be Extra Easy and simple and didn't have to use my big mixer. They tasted magnificent. The icing was the easiest ever that I've ever made and I'm 64. And they remained shiny even the next day. Everyone LOVED Them. Yea!

  43. Review 1/19/2010 4:14:13 AM by mooky84:
I just got bored and decided to whip up a batch of these brownies, and I love them!! Both the flavor and the texture are great! I stirred in a 1/2 cup of milk chocolate, and they added just the perfect amount of sweetness. I can't wait to try these brownies again soon with peanut butter swirled in!

  44. Review 1/15/2010 2:37:32 PM by allibake:
I've made these a few times following the exact recipe and haven't had much luck. The edges turn out rock hard while the center is undercooked. I tried adding more flour, and they cooked perfectly, but didn't taste that great.

  45. Review 1/12/2010 12:13:58 PM by jagden92:
LOVE IT!!!!! very moist and chocalatey quick and easy the frosting is the best can eat it right out of the bowl!!!

These are great & so easy to make. I like to stir in a 1/2 bag Andes Mint chips to them before i throw them into the oven.

One of my favorites! I just add a cup or two of semi-sweet chocolate chips to mine to make them more sweet rather than bitter.

  50. Review 11/15/2009 1:33:53 PM by aussntacribari:
I thought this recipe was awful! This is absolutely no reflection on hersheys cocoa. I bake with hersheys all the time because its the best. Its just the recipe. I should have known because in the reviews before mine people were adjusting the ingredients. Usually thats a sign that something is off. Too sweet, not enough cocoa, not rich enough. They tasted like watered down chocolate cake. the texture was fine (for a cake not brownies) but the flavor was just off!

I make this recipe over and over and I love it. I use a little bit less sugar and instead of using oil, I use melted butter. The difference is outstanding.....the brownies come out richer and without hardened edges.

mmmmm very chocolatey. I increased the cocoa to 1/2 cup to accomidate the extra large eggs I had on hand.

  69. Review 10/5/2008 11:30:11 AM by bownut:
This is an excellent recipe. You'll see this in my other posts, you should never spend your money on storebought mixes after trying this one! I have mixed up about four batches worth of the dry ingredients and stored them in an airtight container so that when I'm hungry for brownies, all I have to do is add the wet ingredients. Think of the money you are saving by doing this! However, I do add a little water--about 1/3 cup--whenever I make it from my mix. Use two cups of mix to the wet ingredients you see above. You can also use this same recipe to make "Brownie in a Jar", but note, it makes about two cups, so you need a larger jar. You can layer your ingredients like they show on the recipe by the same name, decorate your jar, and give it to your friends who just can resist chocolate.

Really good texture, it was moist and delicious. I did cut down on the sugar amount because we don't like overly sweet desserts.
