20 years after Milton Hershey made his first chocolate bar, Peter Halajian sold his homemade sweets door-to-door with his two daughters.

The great shortage
During WWII, a shortage of coconut and sugar caused Peter to discontinue other products to focus on MOUNDS Candy Bars.

The almond addition
In 1948, consumer demand for milk chocolate led to the creation of ALMOND JOY Candy Bars.

The Peter Paul Pixies
When Peter Paul aired its first commercial in 1950, the Peter Paul Pixies sang about their “indescribably delicious” candy bars.

The iconic jingle
In 1970, American composer Leon Carr wrote the iconic jingle, “sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.”

The whole family
ALMOND JOY and MOUNDS Candy Bars joined The Hershey Company family in 1988.
