Category Management

Allocating Machine Shelf Space

The most important asset a Vend Operator has in terms of driving sales is machine shelf space. Similarly, the most important decision a Vend Operator will make in terms of building product sales volumes is what type of product is offered for sale to consumers from each machine spiral.

To meet demand from as many consumers as possible, every Product Category should be represented with at least one facing. This "threshold" facing ensures that every machine provides a minimum level of category representation and at least some ability to make a sale to every consumer who approaches the machine.

All other machine facings should be assigned solely upon category sales levels. Categories must "earn" additional space through consistent delivery of additional volume. Normally, additional "volume-based" facings are most often assigned to the candy, salty snack, cookie and pastry categories.
