Frequently Asked Questions

14. I have Diabetes. Can I eat HERSHEY'S SMARTZONE bars?

The American Diabetes Association recently stated that the glycemic index can provide additional benefit for blood glucose control over regulating total carbohydrate alone. HERSHEY'S SMARTZONE bars are formulated to have a low glycemic index and a low glycemic load. The glycemic index of Smart Zone was tested in two studies. In the first study, the glycemic index of four Smart Zone flavors ranged from 15 to 18. A recent study at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center found Smart Zone to have a lower glycemic index that two other leading energy bars when tested in participants with normal blood glucose. In this test, the Smart Zone bar also had a minimal impact on blood sugar (Glycemic Index = 11).
