Antioxidant Comparison

The antioxidant level of foods is rated by its ORAC, or "Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity." But keep in mind, more research is needed to fully understand how ORAC values relate to antioxidant activity in the body after food is consumed. Data from the U.S Department of Agriculture and the Journal of the American Chemical Society indicates that dark chocolate tops the list for ORAC on a per serving basis (see chart below):



A standard serving of dark chocolate (40 grams) has a very high rating compared to other foods, and thus provides more antioxidants than a standard serving of many other well-known antioxidant rich foods - including blueberries, walnuts and raisins.
