Built by Hershey’s great-grandparents in 1826 on 350 acres of prime Pennsylvania farmland, this was where Milton S. Hershey was born on September 13, 1857. He did not live there long, however; his family moved frequently while his father pursued a multitude of unsuccessful business ventures.
Sold off in 1877, the family homestead was eventually bought back by Milton Hershey twenty years later. In 1909, it became the first location of Hershey’s school for orphan boys.
